Cultural Connections
Nurturing thought leadership in the arts, heritage and culture sectors
Background
Launched in 2015, Cultural Connections is published by MCCY’s Culture Academy to nurture thought leadership in cultural work within the public sector. Published annually, each volume explores a distinct theme, reflecting the shifting priorities and challenges faced by cultural institutions and practitioners today.
Over the years, Cultural Connections has charted the thoughtful and evolving dialogue on the role of culture in shaping society, governance, and identity. The publication has delved into the intersections of culture with urban planning, social resilience, and public engagement—especially in response to global disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic. It has examined how cultural policy and leadership can foster inclusivity, while championing the reimagination of cultural spaces and community co-creation.
More recently, it has turned its focus to creative ecosystems and the future of cultural work, exploring the impact of artificial intelligence, demographic shifts, and the need for lifelong learning and soft skills in shaping a resilient, future-ready workforce.
Cultural Connections brings together the diverse voices of cultural leaders, policymakers, and expert practitioners from around the world and serves as a vital platform to exchange ideas and envision the future of culture in Singapore and beyond.
